To label yourself with just one word is extremely challenging. A person can be so many things. Artsy, outgoing, reserved, intelligent, air-headed, adventurous, and so many more things. I read the daily prompt and immediately knew the answer to the question.

The one word that describes me is eclectic. Webster’s Dictionary defines eclectic as being composed of elements drawn from various sources. Oxford describes it as not following one style or set of ideas but choosing from or using a wide variety.

I have difficulty describing myself when someone asks anything about me. A simple question like, “What’s your favorite type of music?” sends my head on a trip. The answer is heavy metal, bluegrass, country, post-hardcore, and pop punk. My fashion sense goes from goth and grunge in the winter to soccer mom in the summer. I wear mostly black but my favorite color is pink. I enjoy writing and playing music but also enjoy roller blading and photography. My taste in home decor ranges from dead animals to shabby chic fuzzy pillows.

And that is perfectly okay! To stick to one specific idea can be boring. Don’t define yourself with a certain style or idea. Let yourself love the things that you love.

When you’re putting a label on yourself, make sure you choose one that covers all your horizons.
