As as self-proclaimed introvert, I enjoy talking to strangers from time to time. I usually hit it off with people over the age of sixty. One encounter I think of randomly is one of an elderly lady at the retail store I helped manage. It was about six years ago when tattoos were becoming less of a problem in the retail and customer service world. The lady was coming to check out and she noticed the tattoo of my grandfather on my arm. She asked who it was and I told her. She admired it so lovingly for a moment then said something along the lines of, “That is so beautiful. He’s so handsome! I always thought tattoos were beautiful but I never got any. I was afraid of what people would think. Now that I’m older, I regret it. I regret letting the opinions of others scare me from doing what I wanted. Keep getting them. They’re beautiful!”
When I think of that moment, I realize that not all people are bad. Everyone has had negative experiences with people, whether it be friends, family, or strangers. But the more people you talk to, the more you realize that there are good ones out there and you may relate to them more than you know.
