I have to say, I haven’t had too long of a day in a while (thank the heavens!). But when I was a structural fitter in a metal shop, I was working thirteen hours a day some days. I’d get home anywhere from 5:30 – 6 pm on those days. There was no winding down. Sometimes I didn’t even eat dinner. I took a shower and went to bed. I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Hypersomnia two years ago. Basically, I’m sleepy a lot. I have every symptom of Narcolepsy without the passing out part (cataplexy). Long days were very demanding, especially when I was having to do heavy lifting. Metal end plates for rafters and columns aren’t the lightest thing to be lifting multiple times a day. I tried going to the gym a few times after work to try my best at keeping in shape. I remember one instance where I walked inside the gym, did ten squats, and walked right out.
So, to sum things up – there’s not much winding down for me. I’m always ready to hop into bed. But if I want to stay up a bit longer, I’m usually writing or painting while my musician of a boyfriend blasts or plays doom metal. It’s more peaceful than it sounds.
